Hello! (This is Lisa)
It is
4 am
and I am wide awake thanks to jet lag. So, I thought I’d take a minute to catch you up on our last couple of days. Ramadan has just begun so in addition to the regular Muslim call to worship, we are the beneficiaries of an all night recitation of the Koran – over a loudspeaker that is pointed at our house.
J
I’m sure that is also contributing to my wakefulness!
I slept under a mosquito net for the first time in 10 months last night and woke to crowing roosters, barking dogs, children running by on their way to school, shop keepers getting settled for the day – ahhh, HOME! It is nice to be back in our neighborhood again and has been a great joy to be reunited with our friends here.
Scott has been helping with the orientation of the new FYM team. He shares with them the vision and ministry of the base here in
Kenya
and talks about ways they can be a part of that. It is always an exciting time with a new team as they are challenged to pray and seek the Lord for direction for their time in
Kenya
.
He has also had a TON of meetings with landlords, mechanics, pastors, team leaders, visitors from the States who want to partner in ministry here in
Kenya
, etc. Not to mention the time we are spending with the various teams that are here – FYM team, 3 World Race teams and a group from DRIME (a Canadian drama ministry.) I have been involved with some of this and have spent the majority of the rest of my time sorting through our house and packing up things to bring home. Oh, and making chocolate chip cookies for Pastor Timothy, Michelle and the Mzee (3 of our amazing friends here) who have been in a cookie shortage since we left!
Last night we took 2 of the World Race Teams out to dinner at one of our favorite Italian restaurants, The Mediterraneo. It is decorated so nicely and they have this great upstairs balcony where you can eat if the when the weather is nice. The tables have candles and fresh flowers and it is really beautiful. It was so fun to treat those teams who have been traveling around the world for the past 10 months – sleeping in tents, eating whatever they could scrape together and serving the Lord with all they’ve got. I wish you could have seen their faces when we got there! A couple of them took one look at the table and said they weren’t sure if they still knew how to behave in such a nice place
J
They filled up on amazing Italian food and we filled up on amazing stories of God’s work around the world –
China, India, Thailand, Turkey, Bosnia, Uganda, Egypt and a few other places. What an adventure!
Today (Tuesday)
we travel up to Kijabe to visit with 2 pastors that we work with. One of the pastors and his wife are moving to
Nairobi
to be the house parents for our orphans so that is really exciting! We will head back to
Nairobi
tomorrow afternoon.
So, now you’re up to date on our travels! Thank you for praying and encouraging us. There is much to do on this trip but it is also great to be back and to have some closure with relationships and to make sure that things are in place for our staff who will be living here this year.
We love you!
Lisa & Scott
p.s. we have been trying to upload some pictures but our internet connection is very poor. So far we haven’t had any luck, but we’ll keep trying!
