Hey Friends,
I wanted to take a minute and let everyone know that
I am heading to
Kenya
tomorrow!
We came to this conclusion through much prayer and wise council. It was Sunday afternoon that we received a call from
Kenya
updating us on the problems they were seeing in the orphanage. It was only 36 hours later that everything came together and the final decision was made for me to go to
Kenya
.
I wanted to both share some of the story of how we came to this decision and to ask for continued prayer as I fly out tomorrow. First let me share a few things that amazed us and guided us over the last couple days.
§
First, after I sent you all the email to pray about going I remembered I didn’t even have a passport. I had just sent it off last week to get more pages added and God only knew when it would arrive back in my hands. Some friends and coworkers started praying and by lunch time on Monday the FEDEX man walked into the office with my passport!
§
Next up was a ticket. With just a few days until I would go I figured the ticket would cost about 3,000 dollars; but instead our trusty travel agent at MTS (Thanks Donna!) was able to get me a ticket for the same amount as we normally pay!
§
I had asked for prayer about whether we should go and people wrote back with great insight. One friend wrote back and made this comment,
you say “…our kids in
Kenya
…” at the end of the email… if indeed you consider them
your
kids,
then simply consider what you would do if that baby in Lisa’s tummy was one of those kids…. and do that!
After reading those lines I started to realize that I should probably start packing my bags for the long flight to
Kenya
. There was no question that if my child was
struggling in
Kenya
I would be on the next flight over.
- Lastly, Lisa and I spent some time praying on Monday night asking God if this is really what He wanted and not just our emotional response. As we talked and prayed we felt strongly that God was saying two things. First and most importantly God wanted to remind us that He was in control and was taking care of the orphans. I needed to hear that before anything else, God was in control not Scott. That brought a level of peace to me since I had taken on more responsibility than I should. The second thing God spoke to us was the role He wanted me to play. He clearly said that these children of His need to see someone fight for them! God was asking me to make this journey to go and stand on His behalf and show these children that they have a Father that will fight for them. A Father that loves them, who will move mountains on their behalf. Lisa and I both needed to hear that. Neither of us felt like being apart right now but after we spent time together with God we both found a new level of peace.
So, now I would ask you to pray for the following:
- Pray that these children would see the love, care and protection of their Father in Heaven.
- Pray that I can communicate clearly to them the Love of God so that they will grow closer to Him through this. I don’t need or want to be glorified in their eyes but I would love if their view of God would explode to new levels because of this experience.
- Pray that all the details would work out as we change house parents and move the orphanage.
- Pray for favor in this whole process.
- Pray that God would be glorified
- Pray for safety for myself and everyone else as we make this change.
- Pray that I would have wisdom to know what to do, what to say and how to respond
- Pray that Lisa would be full of joy and peace while I am away
Thanks for your support and encouragement,
We Love you all,
Scott & Lisa
If anyone can show the love of Christ it is you Scott. Just know that prayers have been wrapped all around you and you go and take care of “our kids”.
Will definitely be praying for you both!!!! And trusting that the Lord does indeed have great things in store and will give you the wisdom and discernment you need.
Love and prayers,
Sue
